چکیده
The dynamics of interface of chemical gels undergoing volume phase transition is studied for one-dimensional geometry Permeation of solvent through the interface is taken into account It is shown that the rate determining process of motion of interface is the permeation of solvent through the bulk domains Generalization to three-dimensional case is also discussed.

Numerical simulation of the fluid dynamics in a 3D spherical model of partially liquefied vitreous due to eye movements under planar interface conditions
Partially liquefied vitreous humor is a common physical and biochemical degenerative change in vitreous body which the liquid component gets separated from collagen fiber network and leads to form a region of liquefaction. The main objective of this research is to investigate how the oscillatory motions influence flow dynamics of partial vitreous liquefaction (PVL). So far computational fluid d...
متن کاملThermodynamics and hydrodynamics of chemical gels II. Gels in binary solvents
We have developed a framework of the thermodynamics and hydrodynamics of chemically crosslinked gels in a binary miscible solvent. This work is an extension of a previous one on gels in a single solvent [Sekimoto K., J. Phys. II France1 (1991) 19]. Introduction of a composition degree of freedom of the solvent leads to both thermodynamic chemo-mechanical coupling and kinematical cros~coupling b...
متن کاملDiffusion-induced spontaneous pattern formation on gela- tion surfaces
– Although the pattern formation on polymer gels has been considered as a result of the mechanical instability due to the volume phase transition, we found a macroscopic surface pattern formation not caused by the mechanical instability. It develops on gelation surfaces, and we consider the reaction-diffusion dynamics mainly induces a surface instability during polymerization. Random and straig...
متن کاملPhase transition of the dry friction between crystalline surfaces induced by normal load
A major source of energy dissipation and surface wear is the kinetic friction at the interfaces of sliding bodies. Traditionally, on a macroscopic scale, this undesirable effect is reduced with lubricating the surfaces by introducing oil into their interface. An interesting phenomenon, called superlubricity, has been reported on a nanometer scale where dry (without lubricant oil) fruition and w...
متن کاملEffect of the Volume Phase Transition on Diffusion and Concentration of Molecular Species in Temperature-Responsive Gels: Electroanalytical Studies
Effect of the volume phase transition on the diffusion and concentration of molecular probes was studied in temperature-responsive polymeric hydrogels. Results were compared for two gels, poly(N-isopropylacrylamide), NIPA, and poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-co-acrylic acid), NIPA-AA. These gels undergo discontinuous, reversible volume phase transition as a response to temperature changes; this tran...
